An employee of a carryout restaurant in Capitol Heights, Maryland, shot and killed a man who was robbing the restaurant and assaulting employees on Thursday afternoon, authorities say.

Prince George’s County Public Schools are making sure that students who walk to school this year will feel safer. Thirty-nine crossing guards were hired after two children were hit and killed by a car last November. A former Prince George’s County councilman pleaded guilty Monday in an embezzlement scheme.

While walking on Bladensburg Road to get groceries, a woman was hit by a car and the car fled the scene. She was then taken to a hospital where she later died. Bladensburg Police Chief Tyrone Collington Sr. is pleading for the suspect to turn themselves in. News4’s Joseph Olmo reports.

A teen who pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of a 14-year-old on a Prince George’s County school bus last year was sentenced to decades in prison Friday. Prosecutors said he pulled the trigger three times but the gun malfunctioned each time.

A man fired a gun inside and outside a home in Langley Park, Maryland, early Friday and then refused to come out, sparking an hourslong standoff with police, authorities say. Police warned neighbors to shelter in place.

Three children who are believed to have been abducted from Virginia Beach, Virginia, were injured in a rollover crash on the Capital Beltway in Prince George’s County, Maryland, on Thursday morning. Virginia State Police chased the driver after attempting a traffic stop in Fairfax County, police said.
