Man Killed in Alexandria Townhouse Fire

    Fire officials say a 54-year-old man has died following a fire in an Alexandria townhome.

    Crews were called to the 8600 block of Venoy Court in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County just after 9 p.m., where they found flames contained to an upstairs bedroom.

    The victim, Clifford Johns, was found inside the bedroom and transported to INOVA Mount Vernon Hospital in critical condition. Johns was pronounced dead at the hospital. .

    There were six people inside of the home at the time; no one else was injured.

    Fire officials say a smoke detector was located inside the home, but it was not mounted and was not active.

    The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

    The medical examiner will determine the exact cause and manner of death.
