The D.C. Council considers recognizing gay marriages performed in other states, to the chagrin of these folks.
WASHINGTON -- A group calling itself the High Impact Leadership Coalition gathered on Freedom Plaza Tuesday to protest the D.C. City Council's proposal to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.
The self-claimed Christian-based coalition is made up of local pastors and their congregations.
The council will consider recognizing same-sex marriages sanctioned by the four states that allow gay marriage.
"All of us are concerned that this is the nation's capital and that what happens here will affect the nation," said Harry Jackson, the organizer of the rally. "This may be more important in the same-sex marriage battle or battle for traditional marriages than the other states that have come forth because it will be discussed at Congress."
If the legislation receives final approval next month, the bill is then subject to a 30-day congressional review.
