Proenza Schouler’s Mixed-Media Collection Inspired by Tumblr Published September 13, 2012 • Updated on September 13, 2012 at 11:33 am Digital prints, perforated leather and patchwork were just a few of the techniques that Proenza played with for Spring '13. 11 photos 1/11 Getty Images 2/11 Getty Images With their first-ever store now open on Madison Avenue, it's fair to say that the Proenza Schouler boys have graduated from young fashion darlings to established industry talents. 3/11 Getty Images For Spring '13, McCullough and Hernandez found inspiration in their random Tumblr feed. Their collection proved to be one of their most technically advanced to date. Here, a patchwork perforated leather look with a snakeskin print bodice. 4/11 Getty Images Elaborate embellishments and mixed-media details gave the collection a modern 2.0 feel. This digital-print dress may be simple in terms of silhouette, but it's dappled with textured blue polka dots and punched-out grommets. 5/11 Getty Images Certain looks were almost baffling in the detail of execution, like this asymmetrical blue-printed shirt dress which features seemingly random sections of button closures. 6/11 Getty Images Sleek, sporty looks in perforated leather like this zip-front halter dress called to mind some of Nicolas Ghesquiere's futuristic creations at Balenciaga. 7/11 Getty Images Despite its technical precision, the collection still had hints of undone, downtown cool, as in this slouchy printed T-shirt with perforated leather pockets, which was shown with a patchwork leather skirt in black and white. 8/11 Getty Images While the patchwork worked well in rigid leather pieces, the look felt somewhat sloppy on others like this zip-front dress, which was fashioned from colorful geometric pieces of python and exotic leathers. 9/11 Getty Images Given the tremendous success of their PSI and PSII bags, it's no surprise that Proenza continues to push new accessories on the runway. For spring, the checkered trend continues with their new "Record" bag. 10/11 Getty Images Proenza's statement-making outerwear was pared down this season with sleek, simple shapes. This apple-red leather coat, for example, was cut in a basic cocoon silhouette but finished in dramatic perforated leather with exposed seams. 11/11 Getty Images Digital prints were ubiquitous on the catwalks this season, but leave it to Proenza to breathe new life into the technique with this shift dress, which is printed with a photograph of faces on a crowded sidewalk. 0 More Photo Galleries Brag on Your Grad: Celebrating 2020 Graduates in DC, Maryland and Virginia Photos: Protests, Unrest in DC Following George Floyd’s Death Protesters, Enraged by Black Americans Killed, Gather Nationwide NBC4-T44 Friday Fun: Show and Tell!
