Britney Spears, at just 29-years-old, has already experienced a lifetime of dramatic ups and downs. From being at the pinnacle of pop stardom to having coped with a mental breakdown, Britney has been through it all in the past decade. Check out some of the tumultuous twists and turns of the life of Britney Spears and see if she is ready for a return to the spotlight.
Most recently rumors have swirled that Britney Spears may be performing her new single "Hold it Against Me" at the 2011 Grammy Awards, but there has not been any confirmation from Britney's camp.
The new single is setting records and the full album comes out in March, so many are speculating that an amazing Grammy performance would keep up the momentum for her album release and rumored tour that may follow.
The Song went straight to #1 on iTunes and set a one-day record for the most number of radio plays on its first day. Suffice it to say, it appears that Britney is Back.
Britney Spears made her hotly-anticipated debut on "Glee," appearing with Heather Morris (right) and having her songs "Me Against the Music," "I'm a Slave 4 U," "Baby One More Time" and "Toxic" feted on the Fox hit.
During a "fantasy" sequence on the show, Spears told Morris' character, Brittany S. Pierce, her breath smelled "sweet." The "Glee" honor marked a high note in the pop star's topsy-turvy career.

Even troubled starlet Lindsay Lohan recognized Brit's improved behavior when she reached out to Spears for career advice. Brits' dad squashed the relationship and ordered his daughter to stay away from Lohan.
Britney launched a new fashion line, "Britney for Candie's" that hit Kohl's stores this summer. "This collection really represents my personal style. I took from my 'Circus' tour and pieces that I wear every day," Spears told WWD Markets.

Britney's "Circus Tour" was a top grosser. She was also nominated for nine MTV Video Music Awards in 2009, including "Womanizer" as Video of the Year. She is currently working on her seventh studio album, reported MSNBC.

Britney even reached a settlement in her long custody battle with ex-Kevin Federline and began a relationship with talent agent, Jason Trawick.

The couple decided to take their relationship to the next level, cutting their professional ties, to focus on their personal connection. Could this be a second, um, third chance at love for Brit?

With Brit's career looking up and a steady relationship with beau, Jason Trawick, Jamie Spear's conservatorship over his daughter may end before the the new year.

Spears' conservatorship began when she hit rock bottom in 2008. The pop star was taken out of her home on a stretcher and rushed to the hospital. She was under the influence of an unknown substance.

Britney had refused to handover her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James to their father, Kevin Ferderline while the whole world was watching.
Brit was wheeled out of the ambulance and on a gurney at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She was then admitted to the psychiatric ward at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Britney's very public ambulance meltdown occurred after Britney lost custody of her two sons, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, to ex-husband Kevin Federline.

At the time of the custody hearings, Britney was dating bad boy paparazzo Adman Ghalib. But the night of custody hearing was just one incident in a long downward spiral for the pop star.

Teetering on the edge of an earlier breakdown, Spears shaved off her signature blonde locks in 2007. "Oh my God, my hair's gone! I just shaved my hair off!" she said at the time, the NY Daily News reported.

Brit then attacked a photographer's car with a green umbrella, an image that was splattered across tabloids around the world. After the incident, considered a cry for help, the bald Britney, checked into rehab. To add to her erratic behavior, she checked herself out after less than 24-hours, though she eventually opted for a one-month stay for treatment.
Britney's personal troubles first began back in 2003 when she and boyfriend, Justin Timberlake, broke up. Following their split, Timberlake released his first solo hit single, "Cry Me a River." Fans suspected the song was really about Spears and how she allegedly cheated on Timberlake.
After a breakup some girls eat ice cream, others find a shoulder to cry on, but Brit took her childhood sweetheart, Jason Alexander, to the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas.
Alexander and Spears were married in an impromptu Las Vegas ceremony. The pop star filed for an annulment 55 hours later.
After her first marriage crumbled, Britney began a new relationship with dancer, Kevin Federline. Federline ditched his then pregnant girlfriend, Shar Jackson, and he and Spears began to shoot a reality TV show together very appropriately called, “Chaotic.”
That same year, Britney and K-Fed surprised their families with a small private wedding ceremony. A few months after the ceremony, Brit announced that she would take a break from her career to start a family. She gave birth to her first son, Sean Preston in 2005.
Spears' new mommy skills quickly came into question when she was seen driving with her 6-month old son on her lap and not in a car seat. Spears admitted the driving incident was a mistake but later blamed paparazzi and defended her actions. She said, “I did it with my dad. I’d sit on his lap and drive. We’re country,” in a “Dateline” interview.

The driving incident was just one of two in which Britney’s parenting abilities were called into question by LA Child and Family Services. In a second incident, little Sean fell out of his high chair and Britney blamed the nanny.

Months after son Jayden James's birth, Britney filed for divorce and sole custody of the kids, allowing K-fed visitation rights. Federline struck back also filing for sole custody and the long battle for Sean Preston and Jayden James ensued.

To prove to the judge and the world watching, just how fit she was to be a parent, Brit began partying . . . a lot. In one notorious incident, Brit was caught by a photographer coming out of her car sans underwear.

But the pantie-less and pants-less partying eventually caught up with Brit. She checked herself into a rehabilitation facility in the island of Antigua. Her stay at the center only lasted one day.

Britney also started surrounding herself around questionable "friends," like Sam Lutfi (left). Lutfi was eventually smacked with a temporary restraining order that banned him from getting within 250 yards of Brit.
But despite Britney's bad publicity for her panty-less pictures, parenting problems and nonstop partying, sales for her "Blackout" album soared.

After her shaved head meltdown and a long hiatus from performing live, Britney returned to the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards. Instead of the comeback performance she intended to spur, Spears was mocked for a lackluster lip sync.

Legal trouble soon found Britney when she was charged with two misdemeanors for a hit and run accident and driving without a license.
Despite not having a valid license, Britney drove anyways, and was videotaped by paparazzi with her kids in the car. Not a good sign for her impending custody hearings at the time.

Spears did not give up though, she took parenting lessons with ex, K-Fed. But Brit should have also opted for Driver’s Ed considering she got into a series of accidents including running over a paparazzo’s foot. Here she reacts with her cousin Alli Sims as photographers blocked her car.
But since that night in the ambulance in 2008 Brit has slowly reminded fans why they had once fallen in love with the pop star in the first place.
Born in the small town of Kentwood, Louisiana, Britney Spear’s career began at the age of 11, when she was a Mouseketeer on The Mickey Mouse Club show. She was on the show for two years.
In 1997, about four years after The Mickey Mouse Club show was canceled, Britney signed her first record deal with Jive records. Soon her "girl-next-door" looks would become known to audiences worldwide.
