A mother and her daughter were struck by an SUV Friday morning while walking in a crosswalk at Georgia Avenue and Aspen Hill Road in Montgomery County.

A Montgomery County spokesman said a green SUV hit the mother Samira Kailey, 36, and the stroller with her child inside as the pair was crossing Georgia Avenue. Witnesses said the stroller flew through the area and the child was tossed to the ground.

On off-duty registered nurse who witnessed the incident jumped out and performed CPR on the child until emergency officials arrived.

Police said the child, believed to be between 16 and 18 months old, is expected to survive.  The mother was not seriously injured.

The SUV believed to be involved in the incident remained at the scene.

No charges have been filed against the driver.
