D.C. Police have arrested a man in connection with the killing of a 20-year-old Hillcrest Heights man last weekend in College Park.

Edwin Morales, 20, of Southeast, was arrested Friday in Northwest Washington. He is charged with first- and second-degree murder in the death of David Avelar, also 20. Investigators allege that Morales shot Avelar in the early morning hours of February 24 during a fight that had broken out in the parking lot of a hotel in the 9100 block of Baltimore Avenue. Authorities say the fight broke out between two groups that were attending separate parties in the same hotel, and was gang-related.

Avelar was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead later in the day.

Morales is currently awaiting extradition to Prince George's County.
