A father of four who wanted to devote his life to helping others was shot and killed over the weekend in southeast D.C.

DeVar Battle, 34, completed his emergency medical training course in August and registered to become an EMT last week. He was gunned down in the 3000 block of 30th Street SE early Saturday morning.

Some who live in the neighborhood say there have been so many shootings there they call it, "Graveyard Street."

Battle’s mother told News4 her son lived in the neighborhood when he was younger but moved away when it got too dangerous, but he would return to visit friends.

Battle had four sons, ages 13, 8, 7 and 5.
