Council members in Maryland's Anne Arundel County are debating whether to allow the construction of a slots parlor there, and county residents are making their voices heard.
The proposed zoning bill follows months of hurdles for slots supporters in the county, including a now defunct slots bid from Magna Entertainment Corporation. Magna, which owns Laurel Park Race Track and Pimlico, had its bid thrown out because it failed to pay the application fee. The company has since filed for bankrupcy.
Joe Weinberg is a developer with the Cordish Company. He wants to build a new casino next to Arundel Mills mall, which he says will bring nearly 5,000 slot machines to the area.
