Max Scherzer is no stranger to the power Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is capable of putting behind his swing. Tuesday night, Scherzer got an up-close and almost too personal view of that power.
The Nationals’ starter faced Guerrero earlier this season and gave up a pair of home runs, both of which traveled over 410 feet. Luckily, Scherzer ducked in time and second baseman Adam Frazier was able to field it cleanly. Though Guerrero was out, the liner was a stark reminder of just how hard he can hit. He did take the time to give Scherzer a hug and apologize on his way back to the dugout.
Playing in his eighth career All-Star Game, Scherzer set Shohei Ohtani, Guerrero and Xander Bogaerts down in order for a clean frame in his only inning of work.
