The Capitals are finally able to welcome fans back into Capital One Arena this week, and to celebrate, they'll host Fans Opening Night on Tuesday.

The Caps are hosting the Islanders at 7 p.m. in a crucial game for the standings in the East, and Washington will have the support of its home fans for the first time in more than a year. Things will look a little different as fans return to the arena, but the team is still excited to be playing in front of their supporters again.

The organization will be recognizing frontline workers during the game as a thank you for their service throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, including through tributes during the game.

As a giveaway for fans in attendance, the Capitals will be providing special masks. It's part of the team's efforts on "raising awareness about the importance of continuing to wear a mask, while honoring the hard work and commitment of frontline healthcare workers," according to a release by the Caps.

There are a number of new safety protocols in place as the Capitals welcome fans back into the arena for the first time, including health screenings, mobile ticketing and seating pods.
