Vote Local: Soccer Players Up for Goal, Save of Year

Two Virginia athletes up for awards

WASHINGTON -- Two Virginia soccer players are in need of your vote to help them win national awards.

As part of US Youth Soccer's annual Awards Gala next month, a soccer player from Loudoun County and another from Arlington could take home the titles for best goal and save of the year.

Our local Goal of the Year candidate, Marcus Curaca, plays for the U-16 Arlington Venom.  His bicycle kick goal proved to be the game-winner as his team beat the Black Watch Highlanders of New York at the Jefferson Cup tournament in Richmond.  Click here to watch his goal or check out the video playing above.

Curaca attends Yorktown High School in Arlington and will graduate in 2011.

The local Save of the Year candidate is Christopher Soukup, who made an acrobatic punch save for the U-16 Loudoun 92 White Force.  Click here to watch his save.

You can register your vote online from now until Feb. 27.  Watch all the goals and saves and make your pick by clicking here.

The Awards Gala will be held March 6 in San Jose.

Thanks to Matt Baehr, executive director of the Arlington Soccer Association, for the videos.
