As the search for survivors in Haiti continues there's good news for members of the Shrine of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in northwest D.C. One of their own, Father Arsene Jasmin, was located early Friday morning and is alive and in good health.
Jasmin had gone to his native Haiti on Monday to visit his ailing mother. After the quake all attempts to contact him went unanswered. But then news came early Friday morning that he was OK.
"Two in the morning, you want to jump and scream. But tears come to your eyes. After everything all of what you see on television and then to know that he's all right and safe," said Father Stephen Carter who works with Jasmin.
Along with the good news of Father Jasmin, the archdiocese learned that his predecessor, Father Andre Pierre, was also alive and well.
The news is bittersweet for some parishioners who learned their relatives have been lost in the rubble.
Archbishop Donald Wuerl announced Friday the Archdiocese of Washington will donate $100,000 to relief effort in Haiti.
"I hope when we gather with the Haitian community, we can offer them in prayers and charity a level of support, simply to let them know they're not alone," Wuerl said.

The archbishop also said over the weekend all parishes would have special collections to add to the relief.
