Lincoln Memorial Vandalized

U.S. Park Police are investigating an act of vandalism at the Lincoln Memorial. A visitor noticed green paint splattered on the statue and on the floor around it early Friday morning. The monument was closed until National Park Service crews arrived to clean the area.

Surveillance cameras are located on each corner of the monument. There's no word on whether the cameras captured the vandal.

The U.S. Park Police say the memorial's chamber will reopen once the National Park Service finishes cleaning the statue. Crews spent Friday morning power washing the paint away.

The pillared portico of the Lincoln Memorial has reopened, but the chamber of the monument remained closed as crews cleaned the green paint off the statue.
