A 23-year-old woman who stopped to help a driver who had been involved in a crash was killed when another car struck her.

Maryland State Police said the crash happened early Sunday on U.S. Route 50 at Route 410 in Prince George's County. Investigators say the driver of a Pontiac Grand Am lost control and hit a Jersey wall.

Jhonna Nicole Caballero of Crofton, Maryland, got out of her car to help the driver, but she was struck moments later by an Infiniti G37.

Caballero was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It's too sad,” said her stepsister Jenni Campos. “She's beautiful, everything. She had a good heart.”

“My daughter, she was very sweet,” said her father, Jose Caballero. “But I never, never think she would die.”

Friend Antonio Dillard said Caballero was incredibly thoughtful.

“She was always kind,” he said. “She was always helping somebody in some type of way. She would always take that extra step just to actually, you know, make sure somebody is OK or make sure they feel in a better place.”

Her family said that’s why she was stopped on that highway.

The 37-year-old man driving the Infiniti that struck Caballero was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said. Police have not released the driver's name. He has not been charged.
