A piece of track equipment struck a passing Blue Line train early Thursday morning, but no passengers were injured.
The train was on its way to the Franconia-Springfield station at 12:38 a.m. when it was struck by the movable arm from a piece of track equipment on an adjacent track near Potomac Yard, Metro spokesman Philip Stewart said.
Passengers experienced a 40-minute delay while a safety inspection was completed. The train was not damaged.
Stewart says a work crew conducting tie replacement work was immediately suspended and later taken out of service.
