Suspicious Package Ties Up D.C. Streets

A suspicious package shut down several streets and a Metro entrance at Metro Center for several hours Thursday afternoon.

From pictures e-mailed to NBCWashington.com from Misty Allen, bomb squad units were inspecting what appeared to be a briefcase sitting beside a fire hydrant at the corner of 13th and G streets NW outside the Johnston Murphy store.

Metro Center's 13th and G Street entrance re-opened just after 3 p.m. after officials said there was no threat.

The following roads were closed during the investigation: 13th Street between F Street & H Street NW and G Street between 12th Street & 14th Street NW.
