A man has been charged in the murder of a woman in an Upper Marlboro, Maryland home.
Mitchell Cole was charged in the murder of Amanda Jones, Prince George's County Police said in an update Wednesday night.
Jones, 56, was found dead in a home on the 900 block of Andean Goose Way in the Perrywood neighborhood about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Investigators developed a suspect early in the investigation through interviews and evidence collection, said Julie Parker of Prince George's County Police.
Myisha Golway, who discovered her mother's body, said she and other family members told detectives they suspected a man who was an acquaintance of Jones and had a violent nature that worried them, News4's Chris Gordon reported.
"It's really, really hard to think that someone who knew her as a person -- how beautiful of a person she was and how much she meant to her family -- would do this to her," Golway said. "But I know there's some person that she's involved with that came to mind instantly."
A male acquaintance of Jones was questioned by police, sources previously told Gordon.
Before Jones was found, police made welfare checks at 9:37 p.m. Monday and 7:35 a.m. Tuesday and found nothing, News4's Pat Collins reported.
Police are also investigating how the welfare checks were handled.
Jones may have been dead for some time, sources told Collins.
