Police Seek Witnesses of July 2 Fatal Crash

Police are asking witnesses of a July 2 fatal crash to contact the U.S. Park Police

U.S. Park Police are asking witnesses to come forward two weeks after a crash on the GW Parkway that left one person dead.

The crash occurred July 2 around 4:40 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the GW Parkway near the first overlook.

According to a preliminary investigation, a black BMW traveling in the left, southbound lane of the GW Parkway crossed over the grass median into oncoming traffic in the northbound GW Parkway lanes.

The BMW entered the travel lane of a Hyundai SUV, striking it head on before hitting a Honda traveling in the left lane of the northbound GW Parkway.

The diver of the Hyundai SUV, Michael Alan Poling, 64, of Vienna, Virginia, was killed in the crash.

The driver of the BMW was transported to GW Hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries but was held for observation.

The Criminal Investigations Branch is asking for the assistance of commuters that were traveling southbound on the GW Parkway that witnessed the crash or that may have information.
