Md. Nurse Claims Strip Search Was Illegal

4 other lawsuits make similar claims

BALTIMORE -- A Baltimore nurse said she's filed a federal lawsuit because she was illegally strip searched at the city's central booking center after a traffic arrest.

Rosemary Munyiri's lawsuit contends the state-run facility violates people's constitutional rights by strip searching them when it's not necessary. At least four other lawsuits make similar accusations.

Munyiri was arrested in April after police said she took a highway exit blocked by flares and then didn't pull over. She said she didn't see the flares and didn't realize the police car's lights were for her.

A spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, which oversees the facility, said he can't comment. In a court document, the department denies Munyiri was ever strip searched.
