Fairfax Co. Woman Killed by Driver Suffering Medical Emergency

WASHINGTON — A woman in Fairfax County was killed Tuesday when she was hit by a pickup truck while standing by her mailbox.

The Fairfax County police said in a statement that Glenda Quiroz, 46, was at her mailbox in the 7000 block of Beulah Street, in the Alexandria area, at about 2:45 p.m. when the driver of a 2013 Nissan Frontier headed southbound past the Manchester Lakes shopping center had what the police call “a possible medical emergency” and lost control.

He went off the road and back on, hit Quiroz and came to a stop a bit further down the road.

Quiroz was pronounced dead at the scene; the driver was taken to a hospital in what Officer Mike Crutchman called “life-threatening condition” caused by “a different medical emergency.”
