Metro Transit Police officers arrested two men with knives outside the Gallery Place-Chinatown station in Northwest.

Metro Transit Police said they plan to deploy more officers this weekend after a fight among dozens of youth in the transit system led to three arrests.

Deputy Chief Dave Webb said Friday that in response to last weekend's fight, police are taking steps to ensure rider safety.

Webb said additional officers will be stationed at the Gallery Place stop and other stations where passengers transfer to different Metro lines.

Other crowd control tactics that could be used include police limiting how many youth enter a station at one time and having large groups of young people board separate train cars.

Webb said officers also will ride trains to accompany youth to their destinations.

Webb said last week's fight is not indicative of all youth's behavior.
