Woman and Her 6-Year-Old Daughter Assaulted in Attempted Robbery

    A woman and her 6-year-old daughter were assaulted during an attempted robbery Thursday afternoon in Lothian, Md., according to Anne Arundel County police.

    The 31-year-old woman and her daughter were walking in the 1200 block of Whittington Drive when a male believed to be in his teens approached them from behind and asked the mother where her money was, police said.

    He punched the mother and knocked her to the ground, police said. He proceeded to kick and punch her while trying to grab her purse.

    The woman’s daughter stepped between her mother and the assailant, which prompted him to kick the child in the chest, police said.

    People who heard the attack intervened, and the attacker fled on foot, police said.

    The fire department rushed to the scene and treated the mother and her daughter for minor injuries. Police were unable to locate the attacker.

    He was described as black, approximately 15-20 years old and 5-feet-10-inches tall with a thin build and close-cut hair. He reportedly was wearing a red shirt and jeans.
