Metro has pushed back its timeline for retrofitting some of its rail cars with safety barriers meant to protect the visually impaired from falling into gaps between trains.
The Washington Post reports that Metro initially told federal officials it would install protective barriers on its 7000-series cars by the end of 2017.
But Metro has since pushed back the timeline for retrofitting cars until early-to-mid 2018.
Disability rights advocates say Metro needs to act with greater urgency. But Metro officials say they are acting prudently by making sure they get the fix right.
