Prince George's County may well be the next jurisdiction to implement a 5-cent disposable bag tax.

The county's House delegation voted Friday in support of the bill. The legislation was approved by the County's Council earlier this month.

The bill still needs to be passed by the General Assembly before the county can begin imposing the tax. This would allow the county to charge a 5-cent disposable bag tax in Prince George's County similar to the ones that already exist in the District and Montgomery County.

County Executive Rushern Baker also support the bill.

Montgomery County's bag tax began in January. The tax took effect in the District of Columbia in January 2010.
