Man Pleads Guilty to Kidnapping Two Women in Foggy Bottom

A man admitted in court Friday to grabbing and assaulting two women in Foggy Bottom in fall 2014.

Mustapha Kone, 48, of fixed address, pleaded guilty in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia to charges of kidnapping, threats and assault.

According to prosecutors, around 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 19, 2014, Kone approached a woman who was sitting on a bench in the above-ground plaza near the Foggy Bottom Metro station, in the 2300 block of I Street NW.

They say Kone told her to go with him into the nearby bushes and when she declined, he grabbed her and tried to pull her into the bushes. When the woman resisted, Kone told her that he'd kill her if she tried to leave, and the woman began to scream. Kone then let go of her, and she ran home and called 911.

Kone then attempted to sexually assault a second woman in the same plaza moments later, walking up to her and telling her that he wanted to have sex with her.

He then knocked her to the ground and got on top of her. The woman began to scream and a group of students nearby came to help, yelling at him to get off of her.

Kone complied and then began to run down New Hampshire Avenue toward the Watergate complex, but two of the Good Samaritans chased him and called 911.

Prosecutors say Kone ran behind a bush or tree in front of a nearby apartment building, and the two people stood watch while staying on the phone with the 911 dispatcher.

George Washington University police then arrived and arrested Kone.

He is scheduled to be sentenced May 27 and faces a maximum of 30 years in prison.
