WASHINGTON -- Advocates for D.C. voting rights in Congress rallied on Capitol Hill Wednesday.
The nation's observance of Veterans Day is a good time to remind Americans that city residents don't have a vote in Congress, the advocates said.
The crowd gathered on the Senate side of Capitol Hill because because earlier this year the Senate blocked legislation that would have given the District a voting member of the House of Representatives.
The demonstrators said they will try again early next year. Some opponents of voting rights were defeated in the recent national elections, they said.
President-elect Barack Obama has said he favors voting rights for the District. President George W. Bush has strongly opposed them and threatened to veto any bill that passed Congress.
