12-Year-Old Charged for Trying to Carjack Woman in Northeast: Police

A young boy is facing serious charges after police say he tried to carjack a woman in D.C.'s Brookland neighborhood.

The woman told News4 she was cleaning her car Tuesday evening in the alley behind her house on 7th Street NE when a boy came up to her and demanded she give him everything. When she refused, the boy pulled out a gun, she said.

"When I saw the gun, I did kind of walk to the front of the car here that was opened. I leaned inside to grab the car keys. I grabbed my phone," Stephanie said. Stephanie asked that News4 not report her last name.

Then, Stephanie called 911 and tried to reason with the 12-year-old.

"It just was so sad to me. I, at one point, told him this is not worth it. This is not - you don't want to do this," she said.

But the boy didn't back down and started chasing her around the car before she was able break away and run up toward 7th Street.

"I came back got in my car, locked myself in my car so everything was safe and he had returned kind of with some of his friends, circling my car, cussing at me, slammed his fist on my car and was spitting on the car... showing me his firearm," Stephanie said.

She managed to speed away and minutes later, police arrived and arrested the 12-year-old and a 15-year-old boy.

The 12-year-old appeared in court on Wednesday and has been charged with attempted armed robbery and attempted armed carjacking, police said.
