An 11-year-old boy was killed in a dirt bike crash Sunday in Manassas.

Prince William County Police Department said the boy, Colby Thomas Smith, was riding a dirt bike with his father and a friend along a dirt track on private property in Manassas on Sunday afternoon.

Colby hit a mound and was thrown off the seat of the bike -- a 2007 CR85 Honda -- and hit another mound and a tree, police said. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died shortly after.

Investigators responded to the 8400 block of Cabin Branch Court in Manassas shortly before 1:30 p.m. to investigate the crash.

Authorities said the boy was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
