"The Voice" entered its live show phase this week and got a little help from America to pick the singers that will advance to the next round.

Host Carson Daly opened the show with an announcement that there was a snafu in the voting, so "for complete fairness, votes via text and online were not included in voting results." But he reassured fans that "removing votes did not affect the outcome."

Despite the technical glitch, the show went on to be an exciting nail-biter with some surprise eliminations as well as performances from Rod Stewart and former Voice coach CeeLo Green.

The two on each team with the most votes moved on to the next round. Coaches Black Shelton, Usher, Shakira and Adam Levine then had the difficult job of picking a third winner to join America's favorites -- and sending on of their proteges home. Here's how it all went down:

    Team Blake

America picked Holly Tucker and Danielle Bradbery, leaving Blake to choose between Justin Rivers and duo The Swon Brothers. The country-singing coach opted for The Swon Brothers. "For the sake of keeping things as different, as diverse in the competition for my team, I'm gonna save The Swon Brothers," Blake said.

    Team Shakira

Sasha Allen and Kris Thomas won America's heart. So in a surprise twist and some devine intervention (she said she asked God for help), Shakira saved Garrett Gardner, leaving Karina Iglesias to pack up and head home.

    Team Usher

Much to Usher's surprise, it came down to Josiah Hawley and Cathia after it was announced that Michelle Chamuel and Vedo received the most votes. "I honestly did not see that one coming," Usher said. He went with Josiah.

    Team Adam

Judith Hill and Amber Carrington scored America's vote, leaving a flustered Adam to decide between Sarah Simmons and Caroline Glaser. It was down to the wire, when credits started rolling, before Adam finally blurted out "I have to save Sarah."
