The D.C. area's building heat wave will continue to deliver hot and humid conditions through the weekend before a brief respite arrives Sunday night.
Until then, get ready to sweat. Afternoon highs on Friday will once again be in the low to mid-90s and, much like Thursday, there will be a chance of late-day thunderstorms.
Widespread severe weather is not expected but any individual, slow-moving storm could bring a localized threat for flash flooding and strong wind gusts.
Saturday will be very similar, but the threat of stronger storms is higher on Saturday afternoon with highs in the mid-90s and heat index values nearing 100 degrees.
A cold front will cross the area on Sunday — but don't expect temperatures to bottom out. Highs on Sunday will be in the low 90s.
There is still some question on the timing of the front. If it gets through the area on Sunday morning the rest of the day will be dry, but if it takes until later in the day there will be a risk of storms as it passes. We will get a break from the high humidity from Sunday night until Tuesday morning.
