Although there is little elbow room, Afterwords offers an intimate setting that you wouldn’t expect from a café in the back of a Dupont Circle bookstore.
It’s the kind of place that is appropriate for a first date, after a long night out with friends, or to celebrate just about any other occasion.
Attached to the popular Washington staple, Kramerbooks, it’s a full service restaurant where the options are seemingly endless. The menu features a variety of creative dishes. You can find everything from Tunisian baby lamb chops to Caribbean jerk chicken salad.
While some entrees can be on the expensive side, Afterwords boasts a relaxing atmosphere. You can enjoy live entertainment from local artists Wednesdays through Saturdays in the evenings. Be sure to visit the equally low-key bar where specialty cocktails, wines by the bottle, and draft beers are available daily.
Afterwords also has an extensive list of delectable desserts. Finish the evening on a high note with their mixed fruit crumble or apple pie and cinnamon ice cream.
The café serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week. On the weekends they stay open all night.
