Although it has other weekday specials, Rhino Bar's Fridays blow the other days of the week out of the water. From 5 - 9 p.m., everything in the bar is half-off. Yes, everything, including food, liquor, beer and wine.
Apart from normal bar standards, Rhino Bar has a few creative offerings on the menu that are definitely worth ordering, especially for half-price. You can indulge in an "alcoholic" pizza, each themed after a brand of alcohol, or abstain with the non-alcoholic. Some interesting ones include "The Cuervo," with shrimp, or "The Jack Daniels," which includes Jack Daniels BBQ chicken as a topping.
The half-price happy hour fits right in with the bar's normal early evening crowd. The dress code is casual and the clientel is typically on the younger end of the spectrum. Georgetown and GW students stop by, as do unpaid interns and those fresh out of college. But the deal isn't limited to the under 25 age range, and people of all ages have figured out the best way to celebrate the end of the work week is by paying half-price.
Rhino Bar and Pumphouse is best early in the night, as later hours brings the typical drunken masses to be expected from its proximity to the Georgetown campus. Eat, drink, and leave, with your wallet still heavy but your belly full. You'll have an enjoyable and cheap time, giving you yet another reason to ask, "is it Friday yet?"
