Brooklyn Nets add veterans Jamal Crawford and Michael Beasley ahead of NBA restart

In need of some depth ahead of the NBA restart in Orlando, the Brooklyn Nets have reached an agreement with guard Jamal Crawford and are in the process of striking a deal with forward Michael Beasley, The Athletic's Shams Charania reported.

The signings come at a time in which the Nets are desperate for help as the team tries to hold its playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Brooklyn will be without Taurean Prince, DeAndre Jordan and Spencer Dinwiddie as all three have tested positive for coronavirus. Additionally, Wilson Chandler has opted to not participate in the resumption of the season, citing that he is more concerned with the health and well-being of his family.

In addition to those four key pieces, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant are still on the sidelines as they recover from injuries. Heading into the restart, Brooklyn's roster is depleted.

Needing all the help they can get, Crawford and Beasley will immediately become a part of the Nets rotation. Crawford has 19 years of experience in the NBA, most recently averaging 7.9 points per game with the Phoenix Suns during the 2018-19 season. Beasley also last appeared during the 2018-19 campaign, playing in 26 games for the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Nets currently hold the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference and are six games ahead of the Wizards. The lack of star-power available for Brooklyn can only help Washington as it looks to try and sneak into the postseason field.

However, the Wizards will face their own challenges in Orlando. With Bradley Beal and Davis Bertans deciding to not participate in the restart, the Wizards will be without a large portion of their scoring for their eight guaranteed games.
