Washington RB Jaret Patterson Regrets Missing ‘Bills Mafia' Experience in College

Jaret Patterson regrets missing ‘Bills Mafia’ experience in college originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Washington rookie running back Jaret Patterson made quite a name for himself in college as a member of the Buffalo Bulls. You might recall the game in which the Maryland native tied a collegiate record with EIGHT touchdown runs in a single game.

When the Washington Football Team travel north to visit the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, Patterson will be returning to the city he called home for three years. His one regret from his college days? Not seeing the Bills, or more accurately their rabid fanbase known as ‘Bills Mafia’ up close.

“That’s my one regret. I wish I definitely woulda went to the Bills games and just experienced the Bills Mafia up there because I feel like they have a great atmosphere, great fans,” Patterson said to the media on Tuesday. “I feel like we have great fans as well, but Bills fans are very loyal, and that’s one thing I regret. If I could go back, I’d definitely attend a Bills game.”

Patterson went on to specify that he did not partake in the fan tradition of crashing through a folding table during tailgates, though he saw many of his classmates doing so. That’s probably for the best, considering he may have suffered some sort of folding-table-related injury in the process.

Patterson is looking forward to suiting up for the Burgundy & Gold on Sunday, as they face their toughest test of the 2021 season thus far. It will remind him of one particular atmosphere he experienced in college.

“It’s crazy. I feel like they have one of the best atmospheres in the NFL. That being our first away game, that’s huge. I know the crowd’s gonna be loud, and we just gotta get ready for that,” Patterson said. “I remember my sophomore year, playing at Penn State, the white out—it’s gonna be something like that, and I’m kinda excited for it and I know this team is excited to go on the road and go get the W.”

There’s just one more requirement to visiting the city of Buffalo: eating chicken wings. If you’re planning on heading up north for the Washington game this weekend, Patterson has you covered on best spots to get them.

“You got Elmo’s, you got Bar-Bill, you got the Anchor Bar, it’s tons…but my go-to is Elmo’s and Bar-Bill. If I had those top two, that would be my top two wing places in Buffalo.”
