The Washington Football Team's suddenly thin linebacker unit took another hit on Monday, as the team announced that Shaun Dion Hamilton has been placed on injured reserve with an elbow injury.

Hamilton's regular season is over as a result, although the team does not believe the linebacker's injury is serious, according to ESPN's John Keim. If healthy, Hamilton could be activated for the divisional round of the playoffs, should Washington make it that far.

Starting in place of Kevin Pierre-Louis, Hamilton suffered the injury during the second half of Washington's 20-15 loss to Seattle on Sunday. Cole Holcomb also missed Sunday's game due to injury, leaving Washington with just three healthy linebackers.

In the corresponding move, Washington signed linebacker Mychal Kendricks from Seattle's practice squad.

Kendricks will fly privately to Washington from Seattle, according to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post, meaning he can bypass the NFL's mandatory six-day pre-entry COVID-19 testing and is immediately eligible for Washington.

Hamilton appeared in 14 games for Washington in 2020, notching three starts. The third-year veteran totaled 21 tackles and two tackles for loss on the season.
