Wilbon says Dwayne Haskins' apology was 'not good enough' originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
One day after photographs of Dwayne Haskins partying mask-less following Washington's loss to Seattle emerged on social media, the second-year quarterback issued a pair of tweets apologizing for his actions, calling them "irresponsible and immature."
For ESPN analyst Michael Wilbon, Haskins' apology was simply "not good enough."
"The apology and the explanation were not good enough," Wilbon said on Pardon The Interruption.
"You've been studying to play quarterback. What do you think it entails? Not that."
Haskins spoke to head coach Ron Rivera about the incident on Monday, and the team has decided to handle the quarterback's discipline internally.
The 23-year-old's decision to party not only violated the NFL's COVID protocols, but also came at an odd time.
Haskins had just made his first start in 10 weeks, a performance that wasn't particularly great, either. Washington lost to Seattle but still remains in first place in the NFC East. Depending on the health of Alex Smith, the Burgundy and Gold might need to turn to Haskins again Sunday.
Throughout his two years in Washington, Haskins has made multiple decisions that can be categorized under what he called "immature."
In June, Haskins vowed his maturity issues were behind him. This latest incident proves otherwise.
"I mean, what does this say about him?" Wilbon said. "He had already been benched. He had already not shown up for a game, even though he should have had hit butt there in uniform while he was sick just in case. What is he thinking?"
