D.C. United say Chauvin verdict 'delivered accountability' originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

The D.C. United were among the countless sports teams and leagues who released statements following the announcement of a verdict in the trial of Derrick Chauvin, who was found guilty in the murder of George Floyd.

"While the verdict does not begin to cure the indescribable pain experienced by George Floyd's loved ones or the loved ones of countless other Black Americans who have lost their lives to systemic violence charged by racism and hatred, it encourages us that Black life in this country does matter," the statement read.

"Today's verdict delivered accountability for the murder of George Floyd. And as we reflect on today's outcome, our demand and commitment for justice and equality for members of the Black Community continues as we stand united in our efforts as a club in pursuit of this."

The United join the Washington Football Team and Monumental Sports, the parent company of the Washington Wizards, Mystics, Capitals and Capital City Go-Go, as local sports organizations to respond to the verdict.

Major League Soccer also released a statement, condemning discrimination and saying it stands in solidarity with Floyd's "family, friends, the Black community, and its allies."
