For 15 years, LaMarcus Aldridge has been one of the most reliable big men in the NBA. The seven-time All-Star was the second overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft and began his career in Portland before eventually signing a long-term contract with the Spurs.
Just a few weeks ago, he signed a contract to join the Brooklyn Nets, who were building a team full of stars. But on Thursday, Aldridge announced his sudden immediate retirement from the NBA.

Aldridge noticed an irregular heartbeat during his final game, and while he is doing better now, the scare was enough to lead him to end his playing career.
From 2010 to 2019, Aldridge made seven All-Star games, five All-NBA teams and he averaged 21.2 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 blocks per game. He was one of the best big men in the league for more than a decade and he has always had a reputation as a hard-working teammate whose primary goal was winning.
