Report: UFC Fighter Chris Leben Tested Positive for Steroid Stanozolol at UFC 89

The UFC fighter Chris Leben tested positive for the anabolic steroid stanozolol on October 18, the day he lost to Michael Bisping at UFC 89, the Wrestling Observer is reporting, via FightOpinion.com.

Leben, who is well known as a former participant in The Ultimate Fighter, is one of the highest-profile mixed martial arts athletes to test positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

In the United States, the UFC's drug testing is handled by the state sanctioning bodies. But UFC 89 was in England, and this was a test administered directly by the UFC and not by any athletic commission. Stanozolol, a steroid that has been sold under the brand name Winstrol, has been tied to athletes including the former Olympic sprinter Ben Johnson, the former baseball player Rafael Palmeiro and the former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia.

Leben, who lost a unanimous decision to Bisping, will reportedly be suspended for nine months and fined one-third of his purse.

UPDATE: Dana White "Disappointed" in Chris Leben over positive steroid test at UFC 89.
