FAIRFAX, Va. -- Democratic Gov. Tim Kaine and former Republican Sen. George Allen, supporters of presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain, respectively, debated the candidates' energy policies in Fairfax County Wednesday.
Kaine was one of Obama's earliest backers, signing on as a national co-chair in February 2007. Allen originally supported Fred Thompson but endorsed McCain before the Virginia primary. Both men said they will be very busy in the final weeks of the campaign.
Stumping for McCain could help Allen revive his political career. After highly publicized blunders led to his 2006 Senate loss to Democrat Jim Webb, Allen fell out of the spotlight, but he's back strong, now.
Asked whether an Obama cabinet position could be in his future, Kaine vowed to finish his term as governor until January 2010.
