Woman Arrested in Shooting of Man in Virginia Home

A 23-year-old woman was arrested in Northern Virginia after authorities said she shot and wounded a man early Thursday in a home in Sterling.

Prince William County Police took Emily C. King into custody Thursday afternoon at a grocery store in Nokesville, where she was seen crying just before noon, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said.

King is believed to have shot her boyfriend during a dispute about 3 a.m. inside a home in the 400 block of E. Dartmouth Drive, said the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

The victim was taken to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

King is charged with aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. She is being held without bond in Loudoun County.

King grew up in Pembrooke Townhomes, the complex where the shooting took place, and a neighbor said she was surprised to learn who the suspect was, saying King was polite and played with her kids.

"I never heard anything bad about her," the neighbor said.

The shooting was the second in the townhome community in less than a year. In September, a 17-year-old was shot and killed on his way to a school bus stop.

"Too much violence in a short time," said resident Sarah Curcio, who was already planning to move before Thursday's shooting. "I don't want to raise my kids where there are shootings happening."
