A woman was assaulted in a stairwell in Hechinger Mall in Northeast D.C. Thursday evening, police said.
Employees of a nearby business said that around 7:15 p.m., the woman stopped by a Subway restaurant at the mall in the 1500 block of Benning Road NE and then went into a nearby stairwell, reported News4's Jackie Bensen.
Moments later, people in nearby businesses heard screaming. They rushed out to see a man in the stairwell grabbing the woman's pants and trying to pull them down.
A passerby pulled the man off the woman and held him down til others nearby called 911.
Police arrived and arrested the suspect.
