Starting Monday, students from a Washington school ravaged by fire last week will be attending classes at a different location.
Takoma Educational Center students will be heading to class at the Eugene Meyer Elementary School building in Northwest. But first, school officials are looking for volunteers to make sure the school is ready in time.
"We want this to be as seamless as possible," said schools representative Fred Lewis. "We want these kids to not miss a step, and hopefully we are making inroads to that today."
Meyer Elementary, which was shut down for under enrollment in 2008, will house all of Takoma's 300 students from preschool through eighth grade. On Thursday, volunteers helped with cleaning, stocking and reorganizing classrooms.
School officials will be looking for volunteers through the weekend. Volunteers are being asked to show up at Meyer Elementary at 11th and Euclid Friday at 10 a.m. and Sunday at 9 a.m.
The students were on break when last week's fire ripped through Takoma Educational Center.
