Vigil Held for Teen Killed at Metro Station

A community gathered Wednesday night to mourn the loss of a 15-year-old boy killed at a Metro station over the weekend.

Davonte Washington was on his way to get a haircut for Easter on Saturday with his mother and sisters when another teen shot and killed him on the platform at Deanwood Metro station, police said.

Davonte was a freshman at Largo High School, where he was in the school's Air Force JROTC program.

His family and others from the community gathered at 7 p.m. outside the Deanwood station to remember him.

"A wonderful young man. Had a great head on his shoulders, wasn't a troublemaker," said Pastor Jerome Bowie, a friend of the family.

Maurice Bellamy, 17, has been charged in Davonte's murder. Family and friends said Bellamy didn't know Davonte.

"This right here is, is senseless. You know, no words you can put to it," Hyking Alexander, a local pastor.

Bellamy is due back in court on April 22.

A GoFund me page has been created to help the Washington family pay for funeral expenses.
