Valentine's Day Is Wedding Day for DC Couples

Over a dozen couples waited at D.C. Superior Court to be married on Valentine's Day

As people across the D.C. region celebrated Valentine's Day, more than a dozen couples waited inside room 690 at D.C. Superior Court ready to say two words: I do.

“A happy wife is a happy life,” Savonne Pryor said. She beamed as she stood outside the courtroom in a frilly white wedding dress, wearing a jeweled tiara and veil.

Her groom, Bernard Pryor, said he and his soon-to-be-wife had been together for eight years.

“I got the woman of my life,” he  said.

His bride smiled from ear to ear.

“It feel like a blessing,” she said.

Fellow groom Kensly Dougan has similar feelings as he waited for his bride to arrive.

“I’m ready for us to just be official,” he said.

Kensly Dougan said he had waited 10 years to marry the woman of his dreams. Just before 1:30 p.m., the wait was over. His bride, Danielle Dougan, emerged from the doorway.

“Ooh, my baby,” her father said as the family stood to hug the bride.

“It just feels right. He’s my best friend,” Danielle Dougan said.

In front of their family, the Dougans made it official.

“These two really sure show that they want to be together,” a child with the couple said as a tear rolled down his cheek.
