Va. Police: 11 Die in Holiday Weekend Crashes

Virginia State Police say 11 people were killed in traffic crashes in the state over the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Eight of those who died were not wearing seat belts. Alcohol was a factor in at least four of the fatal accidents.

Two of the crashes occurred in Mecklenburg County. The other accidents occurred in Norfolk and in Bedford, Carroll, Chesterfield, Frederick, Hanover, Henrico, Louisa and Prince George counties.

Last year, 14 people died in Virginia traffic accidents over the four-day Thanksgiving weekend. That was the most since 2009, when 16 were killed.
