School District Honors Employee Who Saved Student's Life

Montgomery County Public Schools honored a Longville School administrator Wednesday for her fast actions that likely saved the life of one of her 7-year-old students.

First grade student Charlie Crohare stopped breathing while being loaded into his mother’s car after school April 29.

His mother darted into the school office asking for help, which got the attention of Michelle Mach, the school coordinator. Mach told her staff to call 911 and ran out to help the student.

Mach and the school nurse were “giving all that they had to keep a little boy alive,” said April Crohare, Charlie’s mother.

While she waited for the rescue squad, “I took him out of the car seat, got him on the ground and provided rescue breaths...” Mach said.

Charlie started breathing again before the paramedics arrived and took him and his mother to Grove Adventist Hospital.

Mach received the Above and Beyond the Call of Duty award for her actions. Charlie Crohare is lucky to be alive, and his mother said Mach’s quick thinking that saved her son’s life and was nothing short of a miracle.
