Pit Bull Puppy Left for Dead in Garbage Bag

Humane Society offers reward

A pit bull puppy is recovering after someone left him for dead in a garbage bag in Upper Marlboro, Md., according to the Humane Society.

A person found the puppy in the tied bag at Westphalia and Ritchie Marlboro roads and called police, according to Prince Georgeโ€™s County Animal Services.

When he was discovered, the dog, now named Hershey, had managed to free his muzzle from the bag. Investigators believe he was tossed from a vehicle.

Hershey was underweight, and his feet were soaked with urine, which could be the result of spending a long time in a crate, according to animal services.

Hershey is foster care and will be placed up for adoption when he recovers.

โ€œTying a puppy up in a garbage bag and leaving him for dead is heartbreakingly cruel and is also a crime,โ€ said Ashley Mauceri of the Humane Society. โ€œWe are hopeful that someone will recognize Hershey and come forward to help find the person or persons who committed this despicable act.โ€

The Humane Society is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for tips leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Anyone with information about the case should call the Prince Georgeโ€™s County Animal Management Division at 301-780-7241.
