Pedestrian Struck, Killed by MARC Train Near Bowie State University

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a MARC train near the Bowie State University train station in Prince George's County, Maryland, on Sunday night, police said.

MARC said a northbound commuter train struck the person after he or she trespassed on the tracks north of the Bowie State station. That train, Penn Line Train 694, left Union Station in Washington, D.C., at 7:30 p.m. traveling north.

Prince George's County police said the train struck the person at around 8:30 p.m.

The train, which was carrying passengers, was held at the scene. A train was dispatched from Baltimore at about 11 p.m. to pick up those passengers and take them north.

Amtrak temporarily suspended service between New Carrollton and BWI Airport but had resumed operations by about 1 a.m. Monday.
